Welcome to Scallywags Day Nursery and Pre-School, located in Oakham Rutland
We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of day care and early years education. We specialise in caring for children from 6 weeks to 5 years. Offering full day and part time day care from 7.30am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, for 51 weeks a year (closed between Christmas & New Year, and Bank Holidays) in a safe secure and stimulating environment.

The Nursery Day
Children are offered free play and structured play, together with a learning environment that is tailored to the individual needs of the child. A wide variety of equipment and activities are offered within the nursery allowing your child to develop. As your child progresses through the nursery, their day will become more structured as we help them to take their first steps into the world of learning and education.
The nursery follows the Early Years Foundation Stage. Your Key Carer will work with and support your child through the curriculum, keeping you informed of their progress and development.
Home Cooked Meals
Fresh healthy meals are prepared daily on the premises by our qualified Nursery Cook. With a wholesome nutritious seasonal menu, where all children benefit from a balanced diet ensuring a low sugar and salt content.
We cater for all eating requirements where possible, e.g. vegetarian, and/or religious diets and allergies. Click below to see an example of our menu.
Formula milk feeds for babies are provided by the nursery. If you are breast feeding, you may wish to keep a bottle of expressed milk in our fridge.
A Wide Variety of Activities
The nursery years should be a happy and rewarding experience for every child and family. We provide a caring and safe environment, with a wide variety of activities that promote learning, fun and friendships. Children enjoy free play and structured play, with a learning environment tailored to the individual needs of the child.
Speech & Language
We place high value on developing children's speech and language. Providing a language rich environment that supports children’s learning and play. Pre-School children also enjoy weekly French sessions in a fun way with a qualified French teacher, and we also offer weekly English as an additional language sessions.
Outdoor Play and Learning
A strong focus on outdoor play and learning, supporting children’s explorative nature and wellbeing. Children have the opportunity, to learn about the world around them in our outdoor play areas which all provide an exciting and stimulating environment to help foster a positive attitude to learning. We also deliver Outdoor Adventure Learning within Rutland for our Pre-School children.
Fees and Funding
Please contact us to discuss your childcare needs and discuss your booking pattern, which can be from 2 mornings a week to a full week.
Rooms
Our 5 age group rooms are carefully crafted to meet the development needs of the each and every child. We work closely with each individual child to ensure a happy journey through the nursery. Every child has a Key carer, an Early Years Practitioner assigned to them to work with you to follow your child’s development and progress. Each group has a Room Leader who has overall responsibility for their team, and is available to talk to about your child.
